模具是“mold”、“die”还是“tooling”？

我们在查阅科技资料时，经常会看到“模具”一词，而在英文中，mold（英式写法mould）、die和tooling都可以表示“模具”，那么这几个词有什么区别吗？

一般来说，“mold”指把原料倒进去、然后凝固变为成品的模具，比如injection mold指注塑模具。

例句：

The plastic was poured into the mold and left to set until it was firm.

塑料被注入模子后，便放在一边让它慢慢凝结硬化。

The mold is opened and the part is ejected by some mechanism.

打开模具，并用某些机构装置将制件推出。

“die”指通过撞击/冲压把原料变为成品的模具。按工序性质，冲压模具可分为落料模（blanking die）、冲孔模（pierce die）、拉延模（drawing die）、修边模（trim die）、成型模（forming die）、折弯模（bending die）等。

例句：

The female die was designed movable but the male die was fixed.

该模具将凹模设计成活动式，凸模固定。

We use advanced technology and progressive die to process the valve oil seals.

气门油封骨架全部采用先进工艺和级进模具进行生产。

而“tooling”一词侧重于指模具的总称，也可译为“工装”，既可指注塑模具，也可以指五金模具。“tooling”分为hard tooling（硬模、量产模）和soft tooling（软模、试验模）。

例句：

What is the tooling cost if their order is lower than the minimum?

如果小于最小定单量，应该付多少模具费？

Tooling Engineer will specify additional requirements, such as containers or conveyors.

模具工程师将指明一些附加要求，比如供应集装箱或搬运器。
